T' was The Night Before, The Night Before Christmas
People are cramming for Christmas as fast as they can.
I am among them with tape and scissors in hand.
I am wrapping and moving gifts under the tree.
When out of my heart floats a sweet memory.
From my earliest childhood to my teens.
My grandpa from down south sent presents to me.
Determined they would arrive to their destination bound.
He always shipped them through delivery service Greyhound.
Annually my mother and brother would drive.
To the nearest bus station when the packages arrived.
Each bundle was undeniable amongst the deposited things.
For grandpa faithfully wrapped them as "brown paper packages tied up with strings."
Today, while others credit the image to the Sound of Music.
I always believed my grandpa was the first one to do it.
Each year as gifts come, I think of those packages.
Delighted that his efforts protected gifts from damages.
And now it is late, Christmas and Hanukkah are soon to appear.
So, I bid you good night, until closer to next year.
Happy Holidays to You All.
