Do you celebrate you?
I didn't always celebrate me. I didn't put myself down either. I just sort of rode the tide of life. If a day had been good. I enjoyed it. If another day wasn't so good, I put in an equal amount of disdain for it.
Recently, though, I have changed my habit. I have begun celebrating myself more. Not out of arrogance. But out of honor. Because I have lived, tried, grown, and succeeded.
We each traverse this life as a solo act. Sure, we have supporting cast members and scenes. But every second of life is our experience and performance. We deserve to celebrate our scenes, our choices, our efforts, our opportunities, and most especially the outcomes. Coincidentally, Life needs us to do it, too. It is a sacred contract with life and humanity.
This past week was my birthday. I posted the following to my social media page.
365 days ago, I boldly walked into Carrie 6.0. 6.0 did not disappoint
I walked miles of beaches and woods. I took hundreds of pictures of sunrises, sunsets, clouds, and night skies.
I cherished life with family and friends.
I sold countless books to eager readers.
I learned to draw artistically.
I added the title adjunct professor to my list.
I taught fantastic journal writing classes.
I reconnected with my own best friend in me.
If the past 24 hours are any proof, 6.1 is going to be even better."
Back to You
If you have read this far, invite you to celebrate yourself - in writing. Feel the words slip beneath your fingers. Cherish the best in you. Ignore the whiny critic in your head that would rather list your lack. For five minutes, give yourself over to the best parts of you.
